A few months ago I mentioned that my 92FS would get upgraded to my night stand once I purchased a smaller conceal carry pistol. Well, that day has come. Except that my nightstand, in and of itself, is not a solution for the safe and secure storage of a firearm. I tossed around a few ideas such as modifying the current night stand and buying a strong box to fit in a drawer. These ideas were immediately dismissed because the strong box could be taken out by itself (no place to anchor a tether) and my wife wasn’t keen on the idea of me doing anything noticeable to the furniture. Luckily I came across a biometric safe that has a slim profile and mounted it to the back of my nightstand. It was a pretty simple procedure and needed a minimal amount of tools. Total installation time was less than an hour. The directions were easy to follow. But I’m lucky that I attached it to movable furniture. When you choose your mounting location, make sure there is enough room for the safe to open and enough room for you to reach in. Another good feature to consider is a light. If you’re anticipating needing this in a low-light situation, it will help to have one integrated in your safe. Furthermore, you may even want to consider an automatic light. To add a personal touch, I added an electrical warning sticker on top. To the untrained eye, this is a non-descript black box. Add a bit of misdirection and now the same untrained eye may think twice before taking a screwdriver to pry it open. Most thieves are idiots, and I’m counting on their stupidity here. However you choose to secure your firearms, I sincerely recommend you check consumer reviews. I show this video to every LTC class I teach. My blood was chilled the first time I watched this video. Many safes and strong boxes are expensive. Make sure you’re getting your money’s worth. Be accurate.
Be safe.
